Sushant Singh Rajput reacts to his face-off with a senior journalist at a press conference

While the chemistry between Sushant Singh Rajput and Kriti Sanon in the trailer of their forthcoming film 'Raabta' is being talked about, what also caught everyone's attention at the launch was an argument that ensued between Sushant Singh Rajput and a senior journalist. After the trailer was screened for journalists and the forum was open to questions, a reporter asked the cast of the film to comment on Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Indian national, who has been branded as a spy and given a death penalty by a Pakistan military court.

"Kulbhushan Jadhav ki rihai Ko leke social networking sites pe bohot charcha ho rahi hai. He has been given a death penalty by Pakistani prison. It has been widely discussed on social media. Would you like to comment on it?", she asked. Filmmaker Dinesh Vijan replied on his team's behalf by saying, "It won't be right to discuss it on this platform." The team avoiding the question didn't go down too well with a senior journalist. Addressing the cast, she voiced her displeasure in the press conference by saying, "It was of national interest and as Indians, all you had to do was condemn or not condemn Pakistan but it was not a personal question that you had to duck." Sushant explained, "I think someone should not speak about something or give his or her opinion if he/she is not very well informed about it. It's a sensitive topic and you have to be well informed about it. To say yes, we condemn or no, we don't condemn, you have to be responsible enough to know the facts first and then talk about it."

Things heated up further when she asked, "So you don't know about it?" By then, actor Jim Sarbh interrupted by saying, "Maybe we haven't read enough to give a proper answer." But it irked Sushant, who asked her, "Why is it so wrong? If I ask you questions of national interest, would you know all the answers? Nowhere has it been written that a public figure should know everything."

Bombay Times spoke to Sushant post the press conference. The actor patiently explained, "The point was in order to take a stand, we need to know about the facts first. I am sorry, I don't know about it. I am not aware. I will make sure I know about it and then talk. If you don't know, don't say anything because people listen to us. When they listen to you, there is a responsibility as it's a question of national interest." He added, "You should not give a statement if you are not confident or are not aware of something. It's just goes on to show how callow you are. It's not about not answering a question. The point is, in order to answer the question I need to know the facts first."
