Rising Pune Supergiant host Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League 2017 contest in Pune on Thursday. It wasn’t a good opening season for 2016 debutants Pune and they, under new skipper Steve Smith, would hope for a change in fortunes this year. Mumbai Indians will be led by Rohit Sharma, who is making a return to cricket after an injury. He has a fine blend of youth and experience in the squad and would hope to lift the title for the third time. Catch live cricket scores and live cricket updates from the IPL 2017 match here.
IPL 2017 Live Scores and Updates from RPS vs MI
2118 hrs IST: Released from the Delhi Daredevils and unsold in the auctions, Imran Tahir returns with 3/28 in first match for Pune
2116 hrs IST: SIX! Flat from Pollard and it goes all the way. MI need the big man to fire on all cylinders today. Still not enough runs on the board
2109 hrs IST: WICKET! Rana sweeps Zampa but hits it straight to Bhatia who makes no mistake on this occasion. The left-hander departs for a 28-ball. MI 125/6
2108 hrs IST: Pollard goes hard at that one and it races to the ropes. Zampa had no time to react there. Almost knocked him over on that occasion
2106 hrs IST: Five to play, Mumbai Indians are 120/5. Well set Rana and Pollard in the middle for the visitors
2104 hrs IST: Tahir hits Pollard on the pads, loud shout but the umpire doesn’t move. Dhoni signals for the DRS but it’s not being used in the IPL
2103 hrs IST: Kieron Pollard is the new man in and Mumbai need fireworks from the dangerous right-hander
2100 hrs IST: WICKET! Mumbai continue to lose their grip as Rajat gets Krunal. Pandya tries t go for a biggie but ends up finding Dhoni. Easy catch for ‘Captain Cool’. Mumbai 108/5
2055 hrs IST: SIX! What a way to bring up 100. Stokes into his third over, bowls in Rana’s region and gets punished. He sends this one into the stand and Mumbai cross 100 run mark.
2052 hrs IST: Still a lot of batting to come for Mumbai as Hardik Pandya and Pollard are padded up in the dug out. Two left-handers Rana and Krunal in the middle for the visitors now
2050 hrs IST: WICKET! The slower one from Bhatia and Rayudu hits it straight back to the bowler. Soft dismissal and MI are now struggling at 92/4
2048 hrs IST: Zampa goes for the googly, misses his line and Rana gets some part of the glove on that one. Another boundary for the left-hander
2045 hrs IST: At the half-way mark, Mumbai Indians reach 82/3. After a flying start, the show was halted after Tahir picked three wickets. A crucial phase underway at the moment and it could well decide which way this game goes
2039 hrs IST: SIX! Slightly short from Zampa and Rana pulls it all the way for a maximum. The left-hander clears the biggest part of the ground with ease
2038 hrs IST: Adam Zampa comes into the attack now. He had a good season for Pune last year
2036 hrs IST: Just three from the over. Mumbai Indians 66/3 at the end of the eighth over of the innings
2033 hrs IST: Mumbai now need a steady stand. Nitish Rana and Ambati Rayudu are the two new men in the middle
2031 hrs IST: WICKET! Tahir attacks the stumps again and traps Buttler in front. Replays suggest there was bat involved there but the umpire didn’t spot. MI 62/3
2028 hrs IST: WICKET! It’s that man Tahir again. Bowls one straight, at a decent pace, and goes through Rohit Sharma’s defence. No footwork at all by the Mumbai Indians’ skipper. He walks back, MI 61/2
2025 hrs IST: Six more to Buttler! This is quality cricket by the right-hander as he gives Mumbai a flying start. At the end of the sixth over, the visitors are in a strong position at 61/1
2024 hrs IST: Buttler gives himself a little bit of room and finds the gap on the off-side. Brings up the FIFTY for Mumbai Indian with a boundary
2020 hrs IST: The Hitman is here! Rohit Sharma comes out to bat and joins an on-song Buttler. Mumbai have the start they would have wanted and it’s now on the middle-order to make most of it
2019 hrs IST: WICKET! After conceding a boundary first ball, Tahir cleans up Parthiv round his legs. And, takes off for his trademark celebration. Mumbai 45/1
2017 hrs IST: Early spin! Imran Tahir comes into the attack with the fielding restrictions still on
2016 hrs IST: You beauty! Buttler makes the early move and scoops Stokes over the keeper for another six. This is some batting by the right-hander
2014 hrs IST: Buttler picks the length early and hits Stokes all the way for the first maximum of the innings. Top shot, made good connection there
2013 hrs IST: The most expensive player this season Ben Stokes comes into the attack. He has achieved a lot for England in his career so far and would be hoping to do the same with Pune
2012 hrs IST: DROPPED! In, and out. Parthiv cuts one in the air and Rajat Bhatia drops a sitter in the deep. He didn’t have to move an inch but messed
2010 hrs IST: Runs continue to come in boundaries for the visitors. Both openers operating in brisk fashion. Pune need to be tighter with their lines. All over the place so far
2008 hrs IST: Kevin Pietersen pokes Dhoni on air, calls himself a better golfer than the former Indian skipper. Dhoni was quick to reply and reminded the former England batsman, “you were still my first Test wicket”
2005 hrs IST: More runs for Buttler as he clips one away for another boundary. Buttler is in the zone and is making most of the promotion up the order
2003 hrs IST: 24-year-old seamer from Rajasthan Deepak Chahar to share the new ball with Dinda. And, not an ideal start by him as his half-tracker is pulled away in fine fashion by Buttler
2002 hrs IST: Expensive start by Dinda as he concedes 11 off his first. Conceded a boundary and one went for overthrows
1959 hrs IST: That was close! Buttler ran a tight single, the fielder went for the stumps but it goes for four overthrows. So it’s ball one, five runs for Buttler
1956 hrs IST: Outcome the two openers. Jos Buttler and Parthiv Patel in the middle for Mumbai, Ashoke Dinda with the new ball for Pune
1944 hrs IST: With not many options in the bowling department, Mumbai need a really good total. All eyes will be on Rohit Sharma. Important tournament this for the right-hander after a long break due to injury
1938 hrs IST: Here’s a look at Pune’s Playing XI: Rahane, Agarwal, Smith, Tiwary, Dhoni, Stokes, Bhatia, D Chahar, Zampa, Tahir, Dinda. MI XI: RG Sharma, P Patel, A Rayudu, K Pollard, N Rana, J Buttler, H Pandya, K Pandya, M McClenaghan, T Southee, J Bumrah
