New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore opening pair of Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle were at their destructive best, as their scintillating partnership helped RCB thrash Gujarat Lions by 21 runs in the tenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday night.

Records tumbled as both Kohli and Gayle smashed their respective half-centuries against a hapless Gujarat bowling attack at the Suarashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot and in doing so, they also issued a warning to other teams in the league.

The duo put on their tenth 100-run partnership in the league, which is also an IPL record. While Gayle also became the first cricketer ever to reach 10,000 runs in the shortest format of the game.

After dazzling the fans on the field, Kohli was seen in a new avatar at the end of the match. For once, the RCB skipper chose to hold the mic and become the interviewer rather than the interviewee.

A video was uploaded on the official Facebook account of the Indian Premier League where Kohli started off the interview on a fun note by asking Gayle something that left the duo in splits.

Kohli: "So Chris, how does it feel opening the batting with me?"

Gayle: (laughs) "It's actually a great feeling opening the innings with you and it's an absolute pleasure. You are a legend and you have many more runs to score. It's actually a privilege to watch you bat from the other end and see you score fluently. Well done on your career so far and I wish you score many more runs in the future."

Later in the video, Virat calls Gayle as the universe boss — a title which the West Indian gave to himself in the past.

The duo end the 'interview' by doing their signature step which they have been doing on the pitch since Gayle joined the RCB ranks in 2011. Kohli and Gayle share a friendly relationship off the pitch as well, which is a result of their on-field partnerships.

Kohli also posted a picture of Gayle on social media as well, where the 28-year-old lauded Gayle's heroics against Gujarat. Kohli's Instragram post read: "What an absolute champion!!!! 10,000 t-20 runs. That is just ridiculous 🙈💪👏👏. Love opening with this guy. Keep going my man wish you more and more runs ahead ✌️😎."
