IPL 2018: Kane Williamson, Yusuf Pathan's Late Blitz Takes SunRisers Hyderabad To The Top

Sunrisers maintained their pole position with 14 points from nine games

Yusuf Pathan (27 no off 12 balls) and skipper Kane Williamson (32 no off 30 balls) kept their calm surpassing the 164-run target in 19.5 overs on a tricky surface.

Delhi Daredevils paid the price for flawed team selection and poor fielding as Sunrisers Hyderabad pushed them towards exit door with a seven-wicket victory in an IPL encounter on Saturday. Yusuf Pathan (27 no off 12 balls) and skipper Kane Williamson (32 no off 30 balls) kept their calm surpassing the 164-run target in 19.5 overs on a tricky surface. Pathan's dropped catch by Vijay Shankar was one of the game-changing moments during the chase. Despite Amit Mishra's (2/19 in 4 overs) brilliant bowling, the lack of second specialist spinners hurt Delhi dearly as Avesh Khan (0/47 in 3 overs) and Dan Christian (0/37 in 3.5 overs) gave away 84 runs in less than seven overs which proved to be decisive. Sunrisers maintained their pole position with 14 points from nine games while Delhi after their seventh defeat are almost out of the competition. Only a mathematical possibility remains if they win all their remaining four home games.
Opener Alex Hales (45, 31 balls) was dropped by Maxwell at deep mid-wicket boundary off Avesh Khan's bowling when the batsman was on 9.
Avesh, however, got a rough treatment, when he was taken to cleaners with 27 runs coming off his second over with Hales hitting him for three sixes and Shikhar Dhawan (33 off 30 balls) the other.
It was Amit Mishra, who finally got the much need breakthrough with a brilliant delivery.
The delivery was a copybook leg-break that pitched on good length and turned sharply as it beat Hales' lunging willow to clip the off-stump. It was unplayable delivery as Hales looked in utter disbelief. Hales hit three boundaries and three sixes, adding 76 for the opening stand with Dhawan.
The India opener was the next to depart when he yorked himself tried to slog sweep Mishra and was clean bowled.
Earlier, Delhi Daredevils could not cash in on the brilliant platform laid by young Prithvi Shaw as Sunrisers Hyderabad restricted them to 163 for 5 in stipulated 20 overs.
Shaw smashed 65 off 36 balls but after scoring 95 in the first 10 overs, DD managed only 67 in the back 10 with the pitch getting slower and the odd delivery holding up.
Leg-spinner Rashid Khan (2/23 in 4 overs) was the most impressive bowler for Sunrisers as he put the brakes in the second half of the Delhi innings.
Shaw once again provided a blazing start, reaching to his second IPL half-century in only 25 balls. His innings had six boundaries and three huge sixes.
He teed off with six over long on off Sandeep Sharma and then lofted Shakib Al Hasan inside out for his second maximum.
The most fruitful over was the final one in the Powerplay where Shaw literally got stuck into Siddarth Kaul, hitting him for a six and three boundaries.
The 18-year-old is one of the cleanest hitters among the 'Gen-Next' players. With a slight backfoot trigger towards leg-stump, the Mumbaikar makes room and plays his shots all around the wicket. While there is a preference for straight hits, he is equally adept in hitting the cut shots and is not afraid to pull the short balls when the need arises.
Till Shaw was taking on the bowlers, his skipper Shreyas Iyer (44 off 36 balls) played the second fiddle to perfection during their 86-run stand.
Shaw was finally out when he tried to hit Rashid Khan against the turn, gifting a simple catch to Kaul at short third man.
Skipper Iyer was looking good for another half-century before his attempted flick shot off Siddarth Kaul's bowling was snapped by Shikhar Dhawan at deep mid-wicket.
Delhi's top run-getter in the season, Rishabh Pant (18 off 19 balls) was off-colour as Rashid trapped him leg-before.
Naman Ojha, getting his first look-in in the tournament, was run-out. From 95 for 1, Delhi slumped to 134 for 5 in the space of 6.4 overs.
It was Vijay Shankar (23 off 13 balls), who gave Bhuvneshwar Kumar, coming back from injury, the charge to take Delhi past 160-run mark.

IPL Highlights, SunRisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Daredevils: IPL 2018: Kane Williamson, Yusuf Pathan Lead SRH To A 7-Wicket Win vs DD

IPL SunRisers Hyderabad vs Delhi Daredevils: Young Prithvi Shaw, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant are mainly spearheading Delhi Daredevils' batting unit.

Hyderabad vs Delhi: SRH boast of arguably the best bowling attack in the tournament.

Delhi Daredevils finish on a high in the end despite that wobble in the death overs. 17 came off the final over which takes Delhi to 163/5. They were 125/2 at 15 overs, going great guns with Iyer and Pant in the middle. But a mixture of brain-fade and terrific execution of slower balls and yorkers by SRH bowlers choked the run-flow. Young Shaw flickered away, giving the much-needed boost at the top with his second fifty of the season. What a comeback by SRH, their bowlers are just so good at the fag end of the innings. It's a must-win game for DD, let's see if their bowlers can restrict the SRH batting.  Delhi Daredevils's IPL 2018 season is hanging by a thread and all of their remaining matches are pretty much a must-win if they are to qualify for the playoffs. Delhi managed to win their previous game against Rajasthan Royals but will be up against a completely different challenge when they take on table-toppers SunRisers Hyderabad on Saturday night at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. SRH are the in-form team and boast of arguably the best bowling attack in the tournament. Delhi have improved since Gautam Gambhir stepped down as captain but they still are far from a settled unit and will hope everything comes together perfectly in Hyderabad. Young Prithvi Shaw, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant are mainly spearheading the batting unit but the Delhi outfit would also want its foreign recruits, Colin Munro and Glenn Maxwell, to fire and if that happens they would definitely give any bowling side reasons to worry. (Play Fantasy Cricket & Win Lakhs everyday!)
But unfortunately that has not been the case this season and with just five matches left, it's high time for Munro and Maxwell come good to keep Delhi's hopes alive. Among the bowlers, Trent Boult has been among wickets for Daredevils, claiming 13 scalps so far. He has been impressive in death overs too. The likes of young Avesh Khan, Liam Plunkett and spinner Shahbaz Nadeem, though, need to do more. SRH, on the other hand, are sitting pretty at the top with 12 points from eight games. The Sunrisers' journey has been a fairytale one so far this season with their bowling unit turning out to be a revelation by defending low scores. The Hyderabad side boasts of probably the best bowling attack in the ongoing IPL, comprising Siddharth Kaul, Rashid Khan, Sandeep Sharma, Basil Thampi besides all-rounders Shakib Al Hasan, Mohammed Nabi and Yusuf Pathan. (SCORECARD)

19:30 IST: Delhi Daredevils captain Shreyas Iyer opts to bat against SunRisers Hyderabad
The bowling attack earned kudos when they successfully prevented rivals from chasing down even low totals in recent matches. In their last game here, SRH bundled out formidable Kings XI Punjab for just 119 in 19.2 overs while defending a target of 132. In another instance, on April 29, while defending a modest target of 152 the Hyderabad bowlers halted Rajasthan Royals' chase at 140 in 20 overs. The most heartening thing about SRH's bowling show is that the produced the brilliant performances despite missing the services of its star bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the last few matches owing to a back injury. But captain Kane Williamson expects Bhuvneshwar to be fir for tomorrow's game. Though the team lost its regular captain David Warner in the wake of the infamous ball-tampering row, its new skipper Williamson has stepped up and consistently delivered the goods for the side. While Williamson emerged as the batting mainstay, SRH would hope its other batsmen, including Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha, Deepak Hooda and Yusuf Pathan, also deliver in the remaining games. SRH head coach Tom Moody said having done the tough work, the team is now focussed to finish on a good note. "Business end of the tournament is where we want to be playing our best cricket. We feel we can still improve in all three departments," Moody said here yesterday.

IPL 2018: Yuvraj Singh Registers Unwanted Record, Fans Divided Over Kings XI Punjab Star

Yuvraj Singh's strike rate is the worst for any player that has faced 50 or more balls in IPL 2018.

Yuvraj Singh has played seven matches in IPL 2018, scoring a total of 64 runs at an average of 12.80.

The sight of Yuvraj Singh walking out to bat used to have fans sitting on the edge of their seats, waiting for the barrage to begin. But come IPL 2018 and how the times have changed. The stylish left-hander has been a shadow of the player that has tormented and given nightmares to world class bowlers. Kings XI Punjab acquired the services of Yuvraj at his base price of Rs 2 crore after no other franchise showed any interest in the World Cup winner. Home comforts, however, have not gotten the best of Yuvraj and the southpaw is enduring one of his worst IPL seasons. In the match between Mumbai Indians vs Kings XI Punjab, Yuvraj registered a record that went on to show just how much he is struggling with the bat.

Yuvraj was dismissed for 14 off 14 balls that took his strike-rate in IPL 2018 to 91.42 -- the worst for any player that has faced 50 or more balls this season.

This season Yuvraj has played seven matches, scoring a total of 64 runs at an average of 12.80.

While some fans had criticised Kings XI Punjab's decision to drop Yuvraj in their previous game, others now feel that time has run out for the Indian batting star.

IPL 2018: Chennai Super Kings beat RCB by 6 wickets, climb table top

CSK beat RCB by six wickets in the 35th match of the VIVO IPL, chasing a sub-par total of 128. With this win, CSK climb the top of VIVO IPL points table

In the 35th match of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018, Chennai Super Kings defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune and moved to the top of the VIVO points table. RCB were in the pursuit of remaining alive in the tournament to qualify for the playoffs but this defeat reduced their chances as remained at the sixth spot of the VIVO points table. Earlier, won the toss and decided to field against
RCB suffered an early setback as McCullum and then Kohli and de Villiers took an early exit and were a damp squib for the team. Parthiv Patel played a good knock and completed his half-century, but he was not getting any help from another end as no batsmen could manage to stay in front of CSK bowling attack. On a day when RCB needed their captain to lead the batting department, came the disappointment for the team as he departed on a meagre score.
Jadeja and Harbhajan wreaked havoc by taking wickets at regular intervals and more than half of the team vanished soon, surrendering to the attack by CSK bowlers.
Chasing a low score, started on a good note but soon Umesh Yadav removed Watson's off stump on a beautiful yorker. Chennai batsmen were restricted up to an extent from hitting big shots. Rayudu took the initiative started the hitting.
Raina's interesting dismissal pumped energy into RCB's squad. The next few overs after that went fine for CSK as Rayudu was still going strong and they had enough balls and wickets in hand. Just then, M Ashwin removed Rayudu. Despite the opposition nearing their target, RCB fielders maintained an active presence on the field. Chances came for dismissal but the same fielders could not rise to the occasion. A slight come back from RCB but overall the match was in CSK's clutches. Victory looked imminent for CSK as RCB did not have a good defending total.
